The Chief Press Secretary to Ughelli North Local Government Council chairman, Mr Efe Ekete has disclosed that scrupulous persons attempted to disorganized the distribution of donated relief materials to flood victims in Uwheru community in Ughelli North Local Government Area of p Delta State.
Ekete made this known in a telephone conversation with newmen of the incident that occurred at Uwheru community where flood victims rejected donated relief materials.
It was learned that the people of Uwheru kingdom, rejected relief materials, a bag of white garri, 25 bags of sachet water and toilet papers from the government.
The youth leader of Uwheru kingdom, Mr Egedegbe Alex and Mrs Queen who spoke to reporters held that flood victims of Uwheru kingdom are not hungry and as such they cannot accept them.
Uwheru is one of the biggest kingdom in Ughelli North with 13 communities of about 15,000 in terms of population and they brought a bag Garri, 25 packs of pure water and toilet paper. We cannot distribute them hence we rejected them. Mr Egedegbe Alex disclosed.
Mrs Queen said, “What they brought is not what we needed, they came to give us a bag of white garri, pure water and toilet paper, we have enough garri.
“We are suffering because of the flood and we have been sleeping by the roadside. We rejected the items because that is not what we need.
He said, “The exercise was successful and the people commended the chairman over the items.
“In a thing like this, there are some persons that would say they don’t want and nobody booed the chairman.
“The thing went well, and the chairman commend the effort of the people though, there were some scrupulous people that wanted to the disorganized the event.”
